Gloria Grahame was a star in the golden age of movies, a film noir femme fatale with an Oscar to her name. But by the 1970s she was struggling on the stage in London, and when she met Peter Turner in a boarding house, it seemed to be the romance that was going to turn her life around. But when Gloria is struck by serious illness, she asks Peter if she can stay with his family in working-class Liverpool. Based on Peter Turner’s own memoir, FILM STARS DON’T DIE IN LIVERPOOL is a tender portrait of an unlikely but passionate love affair, highlighting the terrible demands placed upon actresses as they age, and is a glorious showcase for the talents of Annette Bening.
