Cinema Fiasco: Konga

The only thing that excites Cinema Fiasco’s hosts more than a man in a gorilla suit is Michael Gough at his scenery-chewing best and, in KONGA, you get the best of both worlds. Lost in the jungles of Africa (after a hilariously staged plane crash), a mad scientist discovers a special growth serum produced by carnivorous plants. Back in London, he gives the potion to a chimpanzee that turns into a giant gorilla and goes on a murderous rampage. There’s a sexual jealousy subplot to add to the excitement and the special effects are particularly engaging. The sight of a ranting stuntman in gorilla drag, clutching a Barbie doll and stomping around a miniature cityscape, is one to be treasured forever. Cinema Fiasco presents movies with live commentary. If you want to see this movie without humorous interruptions you should go seek an alternative presentation – and medical advice.
